Our Story

EDMHSS is an independent charity, established in 1973 as an agency of National Mind. We were originally known as Evesham and Pershore Mind. We became Evesham and District Mental Health Support Services in 2012.

We are champions of equality and diversity and our employees, volunteers and trustees reflect these values, coming as they do from a wide variety of different backgrounds and cultures. Our trustees bring a diverse range of skills and experiences to the charity, such as social care, psychology, business management, finance, teaching, public sector governance, caring roles and counselling. Several of our trustees and volunteers have been (and in some cases, still are) service users of our charity and we actively encourage and support our service users to take up these roles.

We reach out to potential service users through local publicity and by developing strong relationships with referring agencies who are happy to refer their patients and client groups to us, knowing that the service we offer is of high quality and will definitely meet service users’ needs. The main agencies include; Evesham Waterside Day Hospital, local GP surgeries, Swanswell, Evesham and Pershore Volunteer Centres and Evesham Community Hospital. We consult regularly with these agencies and also on an ‘as and when’ basis.

Our service users are aged 11 + years and come from all walks of life. Their issues range from anxiety, depression, schizophrenia and many others.

On Tuesday March 1st 2016 we hosted a Grand Opening Day to celebrate moving to our new premises. We were very excited to have Evesham’s Mayor and other supporters joining us.  Our new premises constitute an inspirational, disabled-friendly space that will be able to meet the needs of our expanding charity in the years to come.

On Thursday 1st July 2021 we opened Evesham and District Meeting Centre, supporting people and their carers to live well with dementia. This initiative has been part funded by Worcestershire Meeting Centres Community Support Programme from funding provided by Worcestershire County Council.
